Economic Development Strategic Plan Update

Overview

East Gwillimbury is updating its Economic Development Strategy to guide how we support local businesses, attract new industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) investment, and ensure sustainable economic growth over the next 5 years. This updated strategy will help to shape the types of jobs, services, and opportunities available to residents and businesses as our town continues to grow.

The process will include research, community input, and collaboration with local partners to create a clear, concise, and actionable plan.

Why We're Updating Our Strategy

The current Economic Development Strategy covers 2021 to 2026, so a review and update is due.

East Gwillimbury has recently been one of the fastest growing communities in the country. As the town evolves, we need a forwardlooking plan that:

  • Supports a diverse, sustainable local economy
  • Creates a more complete community where residents can live, work, and play
  • Attracts and retains high quality jobs
  • Reduces the need for residents to commute elsewhere for work
  • Diversifies the tax base by encouraging non-residential growth
  • Encourages vibrant commercial and employment areas
  • Reflects the needs and aspirations of current and future residents and businesses

This strategy will help align planning, infrastructure, workforce, and investment decisions around a unified economic vision.
